Illusion of Control

Illusion of control occurs when systems provide the feeling of influence without real effect. Settings exist, but change nothing that matters. Control is simulated.

The issue is subtle: users invest trust in options that have no consequence. When the illusion breaks, trust collapses abruptly.

Real control is effective, explainable, and perceptible. Everything else is interface theater.
